Santa Claus 18
The first-annual Santa Run in Gratis Township started in 2017. We were very grateful to borrow Madison Township's Santa Trailer. In 2018, we realized the Gratis Fire Department needed to provide a Santa Trailer of their own, so the community could always count on seeing Santa at their home. This event helps build trust and community relationships with the Shawnee Fire District as these agencies escort Santa to every home within Gratis Township and the villages of Gratis and West Elkton.
Continual Work: In Memory
Firefighters serve their communities selflessly. To pay a small homage to their sacrifice, the Gratis Firefighters' Association provides Fire Department Memorial Markers at the graves of former members of the Gratis Fire Department and West Elkton Gratis Fire District.

Emergency Lighting
In 2024, the need for updated emergency lighting was identified. Both Engine 80 and Tanker 80 were equipped with outdated rotating light bars that had become obsolete since their installation in the mid-2000s. Through a partnership between the Gratis Firefighters Association and the Fairfield Township Police Department, these units were upgraded to modern, energy-efficient LED lighting — all at no cost to taxpayers.
